SANTA CLARITA SYMPHONY HERALDS
2006-2007 SEASON’S CONCERTS AND EVENTS

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Robert E. Lawson, Music Director of the non-profit Santa Clarita Symphony, the Santa Clarita Valley’s first and only fully professional symphony, has unveiled an exciting schedule of concerts and special events for the Symphony’s 2006-2007 season.

Highlights include three major “Masterpiece Concert Series” performances by the full 76-piece orchestra at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center in Valencia, plus “Bon Appetit!” dinner concerts, “Quartets & Coffee” performances, and community outreach “Instrument Petting Zoo” designed to introduce young people to orchestral instruments.

“We’re not your everyday symphony,” noted John Dow, Symphony Marketing Director. “Maestro Robert Lawson and the Santa Clarita Symphony bring an exciting variety of exquisite, world-class musical experiences to our local community. You no longer have to go ‘over the hill’ to enjoy a fine musical experience.” Nor do music fans have to wait in line to buy tickets to Santa Clarita Symphony events.

The 2006-2007 season also marks the first time the Symphony is making season tickets and special event packages available online, by visiting its Web site at scsymphony.com.

The first “Masterpiece Concert Series” event, Saturday, Veteran’s Day, November 11 at 8 p.m., is a festive program, with the Orchestra performing Sibelius’ majestic “Symphony no. 2” and celebrated soloist Armen Anassian playing Tchaikovsky’s delightful “Violin Concerto.”  The second “Masterpiece” event is the Symphony’s inaugural “Family Concert,” starting 3 p.m. Sunday, January 28. Following a “Storytelling” theme, the first all-ages program presents the Symphony’s spirited performances of Rimsky-Korsakov’s 101 Nights fantasy “Scheherazade” and Tchaikovsky’s perennial favorite “Peter and the Wolf.”  The third full-orchestra “Masterpiece” concert, the “Spring Spectacular” on Saturday, April 7 at 8 p.m., brings the Symphony’s gifted piano virtuoso Bryan Pezzone back by popular demand for an encore performance. Accompanied by the full orchestra, Pezzone will perform Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto no. 4” and his own “Variations on Mozart Themes.” Pezzone’s program will also features Mendelssohn’s “Symphony no. 4” (Italian) and Mozart’s “Don Giovanni Overture.”  The season’s “Bon Appetit” concert, dinner and wine-tasting events are tentatively scheduled for November and March; details are now being finalized. “The Santa Clarita Symphony has amazing music for fans of all ages and interests,” Dow noted. “There’s the power and majesty of our ‘Masterpiece Series’ and the elegant melding of fine wine, gourmet food and intimate music of our ‘Bon Appétit’ dinners.

“We also present ‘Quartets & Coffee’ concerts at fine locations around town,” Dow continued. “And our educational ‘Instrument Petting Zoo’ at Borders Books & Music in Valencia on the first Friday of every month helps introduce kids to the look, feel and sound of different musical instruments.  And it’s all right here in Santa Clarita.”

The Symphony will present a special Instrument Petting Zoo event as part of the Street Art Festival in Newhall Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7-8.

“The Symphony has purchased several sidewalk squares, and we’ll have a quartet and a few other musicians there, so kids can see different instruments being played by professional musicians, close-up, and free,” Dow said.  Individual tickets for the Symphony’s 2006-2007 “Masterpiece Concert Series” performances at the Performing Arts Center are $40, $30 and $20.   “This year, for the first time, we’re very excited to offer season tickets to all of our events at discounted prices over individual tickets,” Dow said.   “We also have terrific packages that combine one or two ‘Masterpiece’ concerts with other major events including the ‘Bon Appétit’ dinners, also at discounted prices,” he added. “This really gives subscribers and fans more flexibility than ever before to come out and experience great music, food, wine, art, and company.”  The Symphony’s new online ticketing system makes it very easy for concertgoers to purchase tickets for individual events securely and quickly. For further information about the Symphony’s 2006-2007 season or to purchase season tickets, event ticket packages, or single-event tickets, visit scsymphony.com or call (661) 284-6044.
